About

Our Eyes, Our Lives is a volunteer organization created by Emily Anne Epstein designed to empower disenfranchised populations through photojournalism programs.

Students participating in a program attend a one-month class on the basics of photography taught by a photojournalist. Each class consists of an in-depth analysis of contemporary photojournalism, followed by the same photography assignment: "Show us what's important to you."

At the culmination of the class, the teacher organizes a charity photography exhibit showcasing the students' work. All proceeds from the sale of students' images benefit the hosting organization, reinforcing the importance of the students' vision and that their efforts are a vital part of their community.

THANKS

Many amazing people helped launch this project. Our Eyes, Our Lives would not have been possible without Kate Engelbrecht from The Girl Project, Ryan Speth and Peter Berberian from Gotham Imaging, Scott Hess from Barrier Free Living, and Mark Miller from The Mark Miller Gallery.
